Enchanted under the Northern Lights

As dusk falls on Suomutunturi, the sky lights up with the Northern Lights blaze

Suomutunturi offers experiences and the magic of nature for every moment, regardless of the season. In the winter, when the fell landscape is shrouded in snow, the sky awakens to a dance of northern lights. Shades of green, purple and red shine through the sky, shimmering with joy. In the summer, the colours of the sky change to nightfall and the midnight sun, which lingers on the horizon, illuminating the Lapland landscape in a soft, golden glow throughout nights.

Northern lights at Suomutunturi

Suomutunturi is one of the best places in Lapland to admire the northern lights. Here, light pollution is low and the vast landscape on the top of the fell offers a spectacular view of the sky. As darkness falls and the winter frost intensifies, the northern lights flare to life above the quiet fellscape. The Northern Lights can be seen on cloudless, cold nights in Lapland's northern night sky all winter long. There are also many folklores and myths associated with the Northern Lights, which you can hear on our guided safaris. Northern magic at its best!

Summer and the midnight sun

In summer, Suomutunturi is bathed in light around the clock. As is typical of the Lapland summer, the sun does not set behind the horizon at all on Suomutunturi's summer nights. In Kemijärvi, the midnight sun usually lasts from early June to early July, when the sun lingers through the night and a soft golden light illuminates the landscape. Also in summer, the top of Suomutunturi fell offers a magnificent setting for viewing the golden skies of Lapland.
